There are many reasons why smoking in public places should be banned in Missouri. A few reasons : over 400,000 deaths in the U.S. a year are because of smoking-related illnesses, smoking greatly increases your risk for lung cancer and many other diseases and ailments that won't only affect you, but it will also affect the people around you. Smoking around other people is called secondhand smoke. About 300,000 infants to 18 month old children have cases of bronchitis an pneumonia each year due to secondhand smoke. Plus, research by http://dccps.nci.nih.gov/TCRB/Smoking_Facts/about.html say that if both parents smoke around their child, they will be twice as likely to smoke than a person whose parents were both non-smokers. Missouri should be smoke free because if all the people got secondhand smoke, then they are at more of a risk to get sick and die because they were exposed to the bad things in the air. On top of that, the stomosphere of the restaurant or public place that you want to go to will seem very unappealing and if it's a restaurant that people want to go to, they won't anymore becuase of the smell of cigarettes that fill the whole restaurant.
